Essential Things To Do After Returning to Japan

Returning to Japan involves revisiting some of the procedures you undertook before your departure. The specific requirements will vary depending on your family and living situation, so it’s essential to create a personalized plan.

・Notification of moving-in
If you previously reported moving out of Japan, you must notify the city office within 14 days of your return for residence registration.

・Cancel your Overseas Voter Registration
If you registered as an overseas voter, your registration will be canceled four months after your return upon registering as a resident at the city hall in Japan. The Overseas Voter Certificate will be returned to the relevant Election Board.

・Medical checkup upon returning
Following your return, it’s highly recommended to schedule a prompt medical checkup. This is especially important as studying abroad can involve prolonged periods of stress and adaptation to unfamiliar environments. Also, please be familiar with your own travel history. At Iwate University, faculty members/staff traveling abroad for more than six months are required to undergo a medical checkup within a month of their return.

・Money

・Driver’s license

・Phone (mobile)

・Internet etc.
